|When you want to know a little more than... Does She Do Anal?|
Erotica L.A. 2006 - Day 1
Erotica LA is unique among all the adult conventions in the sheer volume of things it tries to encompass in a three day show. The Adult Entertainment Expo is all about adult movies, Internext is all about the web. Erotica LA is about both of those and so much more. The show has over 250 exhibitors covering everything from Bibles to Tattoo Artists. The former, XXXChurch.com, was even giving away Bibles labeled "Jesus Loves Porn Stars" if you can believe that. There are exhibits on erotic art and custom cars, a rock wall, a mechanical bull and three separate stages on which you will find things like fashion shows, dance reviews, The FAME Awards, and seminars on such things as "How to be a Dominant Diva". You can find a complete list of the show schedule HERE.
As I enter the Hall I am struck by the old notion of "the more things change the more they stay the same". To my right is the familiar sight of the Wicked Pictures booth and to my left is the Club Jenna booth. Wicked had contract star Carmen Hart waiting for the fans as they first came in and she was joined a little bit later by Stormy Daniels. Club Jenna was currently being represented by Brea Bennet, Sophia Rossi and McKenzie Lee. Though the entire line-up of both companies were present at various times during the show.
It is still early and the crowds will be rather light until after most people get off work so I take a swing through the show floor to get the lay of the land. Since I missed last years show I am not sure if the layout is new or not but I like it. They divided the floor into a "Sensual Zone" and a "X-Zone" which allowed you to narrow down what area a particular booth will be in for the most part. Unfortunately most people head straight for the X-Zone thinking that is where they will find the stars signing and for the most part they are right but a little exploring reveals the likes of Jessica Jaymes representing "Outrageous Toys", Veronica Jett representing "Velveteeth", Katja Kassin representing "Adultrental.com" and Devinn Lane representing "Hedonism & Grand Lido Resorts".
I stop briefly to talk to Devinn about the ADT Dinner that is later this evening. She graciously offers me a ride to the festivities and who am I to turn down a beautiful woman. We both also happen to notice the lovely Stephanie Swift dressed more to blend in then to attract attention walking around the show floor saying hello to people.
I continue my tour of the show floor and come upon the Naughty America booth and I can tell it is going to be one of "the" places to pay attention to over the course of the show. It is designed as a house with three bedrooms open to the outside for the women to entertain from. And entertain these women did because when you put the likes of Julia Bond, Penny Flame, Sara Stone (now blonde), Harmony Rose, Ava Devine, Rita Faltoyano, Tory Lane and Roxy Jezel on beds in skimpy outfits to pose for and with fans you know you are going to have a crowd pleaser.
By this point I am on a quest to find the Evil Angel booth and it takes me a few trips around the floor to locate it. Instead of going big this year they opted for your standard size area with a small display. At first I thought that only they had decided to go with this approach but as it turns out they were just one of many companies to decide that "bigger" was not necessarily better this year. Adam & Eve, Sinsation Pictures and NorthStar Associates, to name a few, all went with a more stripped down approach. In the end this didn't seem to hurt them at all as their booths still had plenty of traffic and sales.
It should be noted however, that each company had the likes of Isabel Ice, Carmen Luvana, Mika Tan, Taryn Thomas, Brooke, Kimberly Kane and Avy Scott representing them. Women who are not only beautiful but extremely gifted at knowing how to "work a room" as it were.
To quote Tricia Devereaux of Evil Angel Productions "Isabel is just terrific with the fans. We could not have asked for a better representative."
Near the Evil Angel booth is another booth that most people probably paid no attention to. I mean with the likes of Yasmin Taylor, Nautica Thorn, Christy Canyon, Ginger Lynn, Gia Jordan, Gina Lynn, Casey Parker, Jenna Haze and Tera Patrick why would anyone even notice you.
Let's just say Wanted List.com definitely knows how to pick them and always drew a crowd during the show.
It is approaching 7:45 p.m. so I head on back to the Hedonism booth to meet up with Devinn, Bono and Vinh so we can all leave for the Adult DVD Talk dinner party. Devinn did a fantastic job setting this up and in the end we had about 25 people total make it for dinner with a few others straggling in for drinks afterwards. The setting and service was excellent but I could not help but notice that the table with the likes of Georgia Peach and Taryn Thomas at it seemed to get a little more attention from our restaurants staff. I can not imagine why.
Devinn drops me back off at the Convention Center at around 11:10 p.m. so I can get my car and head off to All Media Plays "Lights...Camera...Get Some Action" Party at The Day After Nightclub. Unfortunately by the time I manage to get myself lost (twice) and then get stuck in traffic I don't arrive at the party until almost 12:45 a.m. just in time for the Fire Marshall to tell them the club is at capacity.
I talked to Jeff at All Media Play on Monday after the convention to get his take on the party:
Pornstar Portraits is for ADULTS ONLY!
